Wavy Hair

Wavy hair can sit almost straight in one area and form strong bends in another, so the right haircut often depends on where your movement naturally appears.

Work with the bend pattern

Longer layers may encourage movement, while a heavier perimeter can keep fine waves from looking too wispy. Shorter cuts can bring out texture around the crown, but they can also expose cowlicks and sections that flip more strongly.

Good shapes to compare

Shags are a natural place to start because they are built around movement. A shaggy pixie can work when you want to go shorter, while a bob keeps more length and can show a softer wave pattern through the perimeter.

Judge it by your normal drying method

If you usually air-dry, do not choose a haircut based only on a heavily styled reference. Ask how the shape should fall with your usual routine and what small amount of product, if any, will help the waves sit the way you want.
